1. Secretary's Report
Ann here, currently secretary for the e-AA business meeting, with thanks to the Group for this service opportunity.
Newly subscribed to the business meeting in June: Joy, Jesse, Jon T., Juanita, Shirley, Joe C., Dieter and returning member Alex. Welcome! and please let us know if you have any questions or comments.
New in service: Trish O. has stepped up to serve as Greeter for the business meeting. Thank you Trish! She is sending out a greeting to new subscribers including information on the members list and its procedures as well as all the good stuff about e-AA. Many thanks to Kate for her service in this role over the past year.
Group business:
Nominations and elections! As the full list of trusted servants for the upcoming term is yet to be finalized, I will hold off on announcing the new 2008 service roster until next report.
Service committee report:
There was no activity on the service committee list in July. Current members of service are: Ann, Barbara, Betsy, Bob, Bonnie, Carrie, Chris, Ian, Josie, Ketra, Kevin F., Pam W., Russell, Sally, Sister Claire, Susan, and Trish (Trish2). All are welcome to join us in the list for service workers -- just email me or the listkeepers with your request.
2. Treasurers Report
The group began July with $1,228.28. Members contributed $323.84; expenses were $231.20. e-AA sent contributions of $96.74 to AAWS and $24.18 to OIAA. These contributions were computed using established group conscience to reduce the group treasury to the agreed prudent reserve: $1200.
This will be the last report Barbara Ann and I submit together as co-treasurers. In September, the incoming co-treasurer (Ketra) and Barbara Ann will submit the report for August 2008. Thank you for the opportunity to have been of service.
Sometime in August, the mailing address for seventh tradition contributions will shift from the current PO Box in San Diego, CA, to a mailing address in Santa Clara, CA. We'll let you know when that shift happens. The ongoing co-treasurers will notify GSO of the address change for the group.
As a service, the co-treasurers back up the web team by documenting upcoming domain name registration due dates. As this is Betsy's last report, the information is posted in this report. The due date to renew the e-AA.org domain registration is Feb 27, 2009. The due date to renew the eaachat.org domain registration is March 14, 2012.
To make a seventh tradition contribution using Paypal, an online secure method to contribute funds using a credit card, please begin at the e-AA webpage here: http://www.e-aa.org/group_seventh.php
Or, mail it to the group's current post office box address. Make a check payable to the e-AA Group and mail it to: The e-AA Group, PO Box 712073, San Diego, CA 92171, USA

9. Webteam Report
The webteam continues to do the necessary server administration tasks that are vital to maintaining our website, including but not limited to backups, updating third-party software and database maintenance. We have been doing server administration since first moving to our own server (first value web in May of 2007 and then to ServerBeach in August 2007). In addition, the webteam continues, as we always have done, to provide technical support to the chatroom admins, listkeeper, individual e-mail problems, and the like.
The webteam as a whole shares the task of necessary server administration. Other than the routine and ongoing tasks relating to server administration, July was a quiet month. Both this month and last month, Ann S. (our secretary) requested help with setting up the voting machine for the annual election process.
Our webteam members represent a wide range of technical abilities from those who are new to things techie and listening and/or learning about things techie TO longtime geeks and techie types. And all stages in between. New members always welcome.
Web Traffic Report:
Web statistics for July 2008 for both domains (www.e-aa.org and
www.eaachat.org):
Total Visits: 34,234
Total Page Views: 2,230,159
Avg Daily Visits: 1,103
Avg Daily Page Views: 71,939
These statistics include repeat visits to the chat room.
Respectfully submitted,
Tyler, Webteam Chair

11. Grapevine Report
The winner of the July 2008 e-AA drawing for a free one-year subscription to the Grapevine is Joe K. Congratulations, Joe. We hope you are enjoying your Grapevine, Joe.
The August drawing is now open. If you haven't already sent in your name for the August drawing, please do. I'll be sending another reminder out the middle of this month and the last of the month. Good Luck to you.
The title of the August 2008 issue is "We Absolutely Insist on Enjoying Life". Isn't that true?? "Hooked on Recovery" (Page 35) is about trout fishing in AA. The Tradition 8 articles are: Sobriety is the Payoff and Paper Jam.
If you don't have a subscription to the Grapevine, please look for us on the web. The Grapevine Website is one way to connect with others and enjoy sobriety. Check out some of these free features at aagrapevine.org:
Find some sober fun: Rallies, roundups, camp outs, fish fries - check out the Calendar of Events for the three most current months.
Share your adventures: Go to the I-Say forum and talk about recovery.
Laugh a little more: Visit Click-a-Joke to find jokes and cartoons from the Grapevine Archive
Cherish every moment: See how many seconds you have sober. Click on "Count Your Days".
At Wit's End: A little boy became pretty well-versed in AA practices after his old man dried out. One night, the boy greeted his father and said, "I want to show you my report card, but before I do, would you care to join me in the Serenity Prayer?"
Don't forget to enter the e-AA Grapevine Drawing!!
Thank you for this opportunity to be of service.

Your Grapevine Representative
13. List Keeper Report
All,
Listkeeping function mostly quiet.
There have be a couple of instances that impacted chatcom, 12by12 and mens email lists. These were all around people subscribing to a social networking site which (I presume) scanned their address book and sent out invites to the various mentioned lists. Where the invites (read spam) contained spoofed (faked) email addresses - to indicate the member had sent the spam. In one instance it appeared the person used the list as their personal contact email address. The social networking website takes the persons legitimate email address and uses it to send the invites.
E.g.
To chatcom @ e-aa . org
From: BillieSue @ billsuesISP . com (where BillieSue is an existing chatcom list subscriber)
Please join our site <click here >
etc etc.
The objection here is that since we trust people on our lists not to spam - we don't moderate or filter their emails. So the spam appearing to be from them, just walks on through to the list name scanned from their address book.
Some people have offered on the list 'just delete the emails' others (depending on the list) have said 'just delete the persons subscription to the list'. In these instances, I have moderated the ability to post of the persons email address that sent the spam to protect the lists from further spam being received. Additionally I have looked to block the social networking site involved and suggested people be wiser about what they click on, what they subscribe to and what options they allow. Moderation of individuals was removed after a couple of days and in the case of the Mens list where I am the defacto secretary - I advised the email list, Ann as secretary and the lists list.
Also at the start of the month - one man was removed from mens after multiple spams. The above groups were notified and he also was notified about what he could do. The person did not respond. So I'm guessing his intent was to create spam.
Now I look at what I've written, perhaps it wasn't such a quiet month after all.
Regards,
Russell, Listkeeper.
