July 2010 e-AA Newsletter

This newsletter includes reports submitted from: Acting Group Secretary, Sally; Treasurer, Ketra; Online Intergroup Representative, Susan; Grapevine Representative, Merideth; Literature Committee Chair, Karl; Twelve Step Coordinator, Todd; Email Meeting Coordinator, Ian; Forums Coordinator, Juanita; Real-Time Coordinator, Scott; and Listkeeper, Trish O.

1. Acting Group Secretary's Report, Sally

As is evident by the monthly reports of all of our chairmen and coordinators here on e-aa.org, we are carrying the message of sobriety as we planned. Everyone is doing a great job.

Here in the members business meeting, we are in the midst of elections for the next year beginning 9/1/2010. I appreciate that so far we have filled each office we have addressed.

Please consider volunteering for service in one of the positions we have not filled yet. We are all equally important in the grand scheme of AA, but some of our positions are learning ones and a terrific way to **get your feet wet** with AA service.

2. Treasurer's Report, Ketra

Hi, everyone. This month's message is "together we can." After our lackluster financial report last month a LOT of you stepped up to stabilize the group's finances.

We end July with a balance of $538.63. Well done. To view the July financial report, visit this link
https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B8FVry85kLj6YWE2N2QyNmYtMzA5NS00Njg5LWE5N2MtNWE0NzU1Y2ZkZGEx&hl=en&authkey=CM7FrZoI

For those contributing to the group via check, those will all get mailed tomorrow and will post to the August accounts. I want a bit of buffer to transition out and Trish to transition in; she may have her own set of administrative preferences and banking protocols are a patience-inducing process for me. I look forward to growing spiritually through the switch-over.

So while we work it all out, contribution methods remain:

Mail:

On a personal note, in this, my penultimate treasurer's report, I'd just like to say it's the very first time I've gotten my trial balance worksheet to come out correctly on the first try. Yeah. I am all that and a bag of chips.

3. Online Intergroup Representative's Report, Susan

Please see the monthly report from the OIAA Chair, Jan . . . below. There are many e-AA Group members who are "peanuts" (non-voting participants) in the Online Intergroup, so I do not post the agenda and topic discussions each month, however ! if you are not subscribed to the Online Intergroup, please consider joining in as a "peanut" if you are interested in being involved in the most important work our Online Intergroup does :) Thanks :-)

CHAIR'S REPORT August 1, 2010
July Reports were submitted and questions answered by the following: OIAA Historian, OIAA Listkeeper, OIAA Secretary, OIAA alt.Chair, OIAA Chair, 12th Step Committee, Cooperation With the Professional Community Committee, Unity Committee, Policy & Admissions Committee, Public Information Committee, Web Committee, Convention Committee, Ad-Hoc Sponsor Committee, Ad-Hoc Welcome Committee.

In July the Assembly had four listed Topic Discussions: Tradition 7, Concept VII, how groups accept new members to their groups and a general discussion of OIAA literature. The topic discussion regarding our OIAA literature created a result (from much discussion) that the Ad-Hoc Literature Committee has been reinstated by the Chair. Anyone is welcome to subscribe as a member of the Literature Committee. Please email me (or listkeeper Bonnie: oiaa.listkeeper@gmail.com) if you would like to be a member and you will be routed into the newly formed committee, presently at five members.

All posts of above topics are available in the business email list archives and summaries within the OIAA Secretary monthly report. Thank you to Sister Claire and Judy S. who were lead shares on the Concept VII and Tradition 7, respectively.

Special note for IGR's and alt.-IGR's. Please take the August topic discussions to your group and share openly with this assembly what your group or you has to say. Within this month's topic discussion we have questioning as to what value your group receives a via OIAA participation? - Should your group offer a report - quarterly at least to this assembly? - Does your group use copyrighted materials to carry the message including use of disclaimers? -Should one committee work with OIAA presence at all AA functions or one committee work exclusively on the International Convention? Your participation within the August discussions is the only way we can communicate to each other, have greater understanding of our groups and help this assembly come to an informed group conscience, that will make a difference. ~Jan BB, OIAA Chair

4. Grapevine Representative's Report, Merideth

In the month of June, we had 17 entries. June's Grapevine winner was newcomer Melissa K. We are SO excited for her! In the month of July we had 38 entries. July's winner is Michael Old Turtle! Congratulations! I have been sending reminders at least once a week usually on Sunday. Below is a highlight of what has been going on for AA and the Grapevine in July!

Thousands of AAs gathered in San Antonio, Texas, from July 1-4 to celebrate AA's 75th anniversary at the 2010 International Convention. For those who weren't able to join the party, the stories in this month's special section gave a taste of what celebrating AA-style is like. First, we have a message reflecting on the convention theme, "A Vision for Us," by Ward Ewing, the AA General Service Board's nonalcoholic chair. Then "Bikes and Bagpipes" shows an up-close and personal view of the annual Founders' Day event that celebrates the June 10, 1935, birth of AA in Akron, Ohio. Finally, in "Party in the Park," a member from San Antonio shares his memories of the Toronto 2005 Convention.

In this same spirit of celebrating sobriety one day at a time, a woman shares her journey from darkness to light in "Recovery is a Wonderland." "Today I have become the person I always wanted to be," she writes. Similarly, a Native American compares AA to a shelter that houses an entire clan in "The Longhouse." And an AA who got sober as a teen writes, "I could help so many young people if I stayed sober," in "Railroaded."

Whether you are celebrating your sobriety with thousands of other AAs or just sharing your story from one alcoholic to another, it is this pure joy of living and our bond and fellowship with other members that feed our recovery. Happy, happy birthday, AA.

Thank you for letting me be of service, but most importantly for your patience as I learn and for your willingness to let me make mistakes as I learn!

5. Literature Committee Chair's Report, Karl

All of us continue looking in E-AA's various venues for stories to add to E-AA's "Our Stories" page. http://e-aa.org/group_stories.php This page has a tremendous collection of experience, strength, and hope for all of us; old timer and newcomer alike. Thanks to everyone in Literature who continues to seek out stories. We currently have the possibility of two new personal stories in the works.

If you would care to share your story or know of someone else who would be willing to share their story drop a note to any one of us and we will follow up. The members of the E-AA literature committee are myself (Karl), Trish2, Missy, Ann, Michael, Russell, and Shanna. If you would like to join our committee please drop us a note at listkeeping@e-AA.org and let the listkeepers know you would like to be a member of literature. We'd love to have you!

Trish2 continues the service of ordering Big Books and also of ordering the Grapevine subscription for the monthly Grapevine giveaway. Thank you so much Trish.

The following was added to the Group Guidelines in July after a housekeeping motion was made and passed in group conscience. Thanks Ann for proposing the housekeeping motion.

From our Big book p. 19

We have concluded to publish an anonymous volume setting forth the problem as we see it. We shall bring to the task our combined experience and knowledge. This should suggest a useful program for anyone concerned with a drinking problem.

Remember---the textbook "Alcoholics Anonymous" sets forth the problem and suggests a useful program for anyone concerned with a drinking problem. Those first 100 AA's were pretty sharp weren't they?

7. Email Meeting Coordinator's Report, Ian

We have experienced a slight lull in activity at the NB meeting. I would like to invite interested members to sign up and participate.

The new Lounge meeting is quite a success. With an easy-flowing, unstructured format, folks are interested in talking about things related to alcoholism.

The 12&12 meeting is going strong, with weekly topic leads based on the Big Book, the 12&12, Grapevine and other AA material. Topics are based in the current month, so in July we talked about Step 7 and Tradition 7.

The women's email meeting continues to be a strong source of recovery for our female members.

8. Forum Coordinator's Report, Juanita

The forums are running smoothly and without disruption. We were short on female mods within the forum to help with the registered women's section and cross-representation throughout the forums committee. We now have two wonderful ladies who stepped up to the plate to offer their service to E-AA. We will be announcing the new arrivals shortly for members review. All in all, the forums are a blessed place to be of service and we are grateful for all of our volunteers as well as our members.

9. Real Time Coordinator's Report - Scott

Many new people in chatroom and more new ones each day!

June log-ins:
Fellowship/Meeting Room-7089 with repeat log ins
New to Recovery Room-347 log ins

July log ins:
Fellowship/meeting room-6441 with repeat log ins
New to Recovery Room-293 with repeat log ins

Monitors Report -- Jenny, Buster, Don, Dan, Brenda, Mags, Thane, Todd, Walt, Dean, Walt, Pat, Dawn:

Other than Phill's/whoever's continued registration and disruption of the room, the month has been uneventful as far as any other disruptions. The Monitors have all pretty much came together and we have a pretty good coverage most days.

Log reading has been very uneventful and quiet due to the above statement. Recovery chat prevalent throughout all logs most times. This is good to see and explains the lack of use of the new room. It has not been needed. This is a great thing.

Chatcom Report: LauraCW added and removed from chatcom until further notice. Pretty quiet this month in chatcom other than business as usual.

New registration has been a huge help although we still have some confusion as far as the sent e-mail registration link. But other then that it has been a huge help in the safety of the room.
Meeting announcements 5 minutes before meeting starts continues. I have discontinued the hourly posting of various readings in the New to Recovery room to to lack of interest.

CC"s comments: Chatroom continues to show vast improvement. Chatters stepping up to help newies, and assist in meetings when needed. Decorum guidelines being met aside from a few various instances which will happen now and then.

We have, as stated in the last report, added two new meetings along with the Living Sober Early Sunday meeting. One, late Sat. (2am. est)/early Sunday, is a Daily Reflection/As Bill Sees It format and is geared toward the European/International chatters. Thanks to Mags for stepping up to Chair it and lain for greeting. We also started a new Thursday morning Daily Reflection meeting. We needed a early meeting. As it stood, there was not a meeting until 4pm est that day. Basically no meeting all day. Thanks to Lori P. for stepping up to chair and getting that one off the ground.

Independence Day Alcathon was a great success as usual with all chatters stepping up to help.

End of Term Note: It appears my term has come to an end and with elections now ongoing, it appears barring any objections between now and tomorrow (as of this writing), I will be reelected. It has been an interesting year, as we started with a chatroom filled with chaos, and through a team effort turned it around to a viable and productive recovery site. I see in the votes of confidence for me, all like to say it was me. Not so . . . . Sure, I fiddled with the agenda and put a few things together, but it is everyone who do the work here so unselfishly, and caringly. It is certainly a we program! I'd like to take this time to thank all on the chat committee, and all the chatters who keep us going and give us a purpose. We all stay sober by coming here and sharing our ESH. Through this venue, we are able to give back what we were so freely given. Thanks to all!

10. Listkeeper's Report, Trish O.

Things are running very well in the listkeeping department of e-AA. We have rotated in Marc as our new alternate listkeeper. Welcome & Thank you Marc for stepping up for service. Karl has been added to main list for listkeeping preparation and doing excellent.

Thank you all for allowing me to serve.
