February Grapevine Magazine Highlights

The Grapevine this month hopes to share some of the spirit of young AAs-and their seriousness of purpose-in this issue. Conveying their growing dedication to service, "AA is for Us" describes how alcoholics in one city formed a committee to support one another and soon found themselves taking meetings into the juvenile wing of prisons and arranging transportation to service events for newcomers.

Tracing the presence of young AAs to 1935, "Forever Young" conveys the impact they had not only on the personal recovery of drunks, but on the growth of the program, while "Early Exposure" offers a vision of the impact they may have in the years ahead. "If we suit up, show up and open our minds to learn from those who have gone before us," writes the author, "we'll be secure and our society will carry on into the future."

What makes this month's special section particularly special are its illustrations by David R., a sober member of AA. It is an act of generosity that reminds me how fortunate we are to be in a Fellowship of women and men like David, who give so much to AA and enjoy doing it, to boot.

Subscriptions to the Grapevine can be ordered here:
http://www.aagrapevine.org/catalog/shop/gvsuborder.php
The cost for a 1 year subscription is $27 for the USA, $31 for Canada and $39 for all other international orders.

Call for Articles: The AA Grapevine is your meeting. Please feel free to share. We are always looking for new stories to share with our readers, especially for our Special Sections. If you would like to share a story with us, please keep in mind that we need to receive it at least three months prior to publication. The Grapevine welcomes articles on every aspect of recovery in Alcoholics Anonymous

We are always glad to get stories about helping others and working with professionals. In addition, we always welcome articles about the Traditions and the Twelve Steps. Suggested manuscript length is three to seven double-spaced pages. Include your full name, address, phone number, and e-mail address. Please keep a copy of your work because manuscripts cannot be returned. Refer to our Submission Guidelines for more information.

7. Email Coordinator's Report, Ian

Our email meetings continue to be a strong source of recovery. The 12&12 meeting has a weekly topic, this month is Step 3 / Tradition 3 from the Big Book and the 12&12.

Kate P has recently stepped into the role of Secretary for NB, and so joins the email committee. We would welcome more activity in the NB meeting, from newcomer and old-timer alike.

The Women's Sober Lounge has started a new series, "thought/question for the day" on a weekly basis. Apparently this has stirred some wonderful conversation and interaction about daily lives and a great way to get to know each other on a more personal level. Attendance in the lounge is also growing rapidly through practicing principles of patience, tolerance and understanding.

Below is an email from Sheila B, Secretary of the Women's email meeting, forwarded with her permission. I think it captures the spirit of what we try to achieve.

Forwarded message follows:

My name is Sheila, I am an alcoholic, and I am grateful to have the privilege of being your secretary. What a wonderful meeting this is, we are women from all over the world, that share the common bond of alcoholism, and recovery from that, with the steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Welcome to all of our new ladies. If you have a problem with alcohol, you are most definitely in the right place.

Reminder time : Please send your birthday congratulations privately to that individual. Jane graciously provides the email address in the birthday announcement, just copy and paste it to a new email, or blank out this address, xxx, and copy and paste the new email address. Same goes for greeting our new ladies.

Remember, this meeting is an AA meeting for women. By stating we are a meeting means that alcoholism, and the recovery from alcoholism, is our priority. We strive to keep this meeting as close to a face to face meeting as possible, by providing 3 weekly topics, question time, daily and weekly readings, and Big Book readings.

Thanks to Trish2, Kelly B and Sally for bringing the weekly topics to us all these last few months, and thanks to Debbie L, who filled in for Sally! Thank you ladies, your contributions are what makes this meeting go 'round.

For March and April, our topic leaders will be: Sunday - Tyler Wednesday - Alison, and Friday - Debbie J. Thank you ladies for willing to be of service to this meeting.

We started our Step topics 3 weeks ago, we are going through one Step each Monday. Thanks to Natalie, Alison and Lee for leading Steps 1, 2 and 3. We have 9 more Steps to go, and guess what, I need 9 more volunteers......if you are interested, please email me privately ...come on now.....:)

And, as always, thank you to all of our service workers, listkeepers, volunteer coordinator, and the daily and weekly posters. Every one of you contributes to someone else's sobriety.
